Q: I don’t usually translate professionally, however I am doing a friend a favor and need to know if abbreviations should be translated?

A: Translate the name in the target language and put the translated abbreviation between parentheses. For example World Trade Organization (WTO) translates into French as Organisation mondiale du commerce (OMC)
 

Q: How should metric measurements be translated for Americans? Or should it be translated at all?

A: Put the metric measurements in the sentence and the US/UK values between parentheses. For example, 2,54 cm (1 pouce) in French or 2.54 cm (1 in) in English.
